Jane Urquhart in Ottawa, ON
It was a wonderful evening. The reading, response to questions and chat about the book were really interesting and revealing. It was a pleasure meeting Jane and getting our books signed.

Trevor Cole & Andrew O'Hagan at IFOA in Toronto, ON
We had a lovely evening and it was a nice experience as I had never been to Harbourfront Centre before. I’m looking forward to going back again. I had read about the authors and their books in the Booklounge newsletter, but hadn’t read any of their previous works. I have started Practical Jean and it is very funny. My daughter was familiar with The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog and of His Friend Marilyn Monroe, and was planning on reading it.
It is also nice to be able to read and promote a Canadian author!
The Booklounge VIP Team is always so friendly and helpful at these events. I have experienced a few before and they just seem to get better and better with the chosen venues. I would also like to add that experiencing the IFOA event made me realize it is more accessible than I thought and would enjoy taking part next year by purchasing tickets to one or more evenings.
Thanks so much for the opportunity!

Ian McEwan in Vancouver, BC
We enjoyed Ian McEwan’s chat with Jerry Wasserman very much! And I loved ‘Solar’; I thought it was hilarious. Ian McEwan is a wonderful writer. I discovered him originally because my brother’s name was Ian McEwen, so I bought a copy of one of his books as a present for my brother. Then I started reading him. I particularly loved “Enduring Love” and “On Chesil Beach” so I found the laugh-out-loud humour in “Solar” a welcome surprise. Thanks for the books and the tickets.

The BookLounge.ca VIP Fall Preview Event in Toronto
When we are out and about, bookloungers are always asking us about upcoming books and what we recommend reading. For the second year in a row, we hosted a preview event in Toronto. Here's what the attendees had to say:
I've been to Random House/Book Lounge events before, and always enjoyed them, so I came with a positive attitude. I think the more intimate atmosphere of the book store was a plus. I enjoyed both presentations. Terry Fallis is a relaxed and pleasant speaker, and I enjoyed having more of his background. Like most writers he had a hard road to the prize. Ben I'm used to-go to his Brunches and other presentations at the book store. He's smart and witty, and loves books so much that it transfers to his audience. When Ben was finished I turned to my daughter and said, "Don't you just want to buy all of them?"

I had a wonderful time. I'm a booklover and I read a lot, but I also love being in rooms full of books and nice chairs. I spend a lot of time in bookstores and it's never enough, so it was a great evening. Terry Fallis was funny and so was Ben McNally. Author readings are wonderful events; I am an English teacher (no surprise here) and I bring my students to as many events as I can, time and distance permitting. Meeting the author has such a far-reaching effect, especially on young people. Students have told me, years later, how much they enjoyed meeting and talking with authors whom we had read in class.

My friend and I had a wonderful time – Terry funny and interesting. I especially liked Ben’s presentation. It was great to get a sneak peak and the books coming over the next few months. He is so knowledgeable and engaging. I am really looking forward to reading Between Summer’s Longing and On the Proper Use of Stars. Although I read all genres, I have a special place in my heart for YA books so I was particularly please that he included a few of those on his list.
