Susan Swan was born in 1945 in Midland, Ontario, and cannot remember a time when she didn’t want to become a writer. As a child she was an avid reader, using books as a way to escape her small-town world. After graduating from McGill with a degree in English literature, Swan worked as a journalist for newspapers and magazines, but she soon found that work too limiting.
